Nigerian athlete Raymond Ekevwo has become Africa’s fastest man after he won gold in the 100m event with a time of 9.96secs at the ongoing 2019 African Games in Morocco.
This is the first time since 2007 that Nigeria will win gold in the men’s 100m at the African Games.
Gue Arthur Cisse of Cote D’Ivoire won silver and Ekevwo’s compatriot, Itsekiri Usheoritse Ese, claimed the bronze medal with a new personal best of 10.02 seconds.
In the women’s 100 meters race, Cote D’Ivoire’s Marie Josee Ta Lou retained her All Africa Games title with a time of 11.09s (-1.2).
Gambia’s Gina Bass ran a national record of 11.13 seconds to win Silver and Egypt’s Basant Hemida took Bronze in 11.31 seconds.
Nigeria’s Joy Udo-Gabriel finished 4th in 11.44 seconds.
