An 18-year-old man has killed 10 people and wounded 3 others, 11 of whom are black and two who are white at the Tops Friendly Market, Saturday afternoon in Buffalo, New York in a predominantly black neighbourhood.
The suspect, identified as Payton Gendron, streamed the attack on a social media platform according to officials.
“This was pure evil,” Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia said at a Saturday news conference, calling the shooting a “straight up racially motivated hate crime from somebody outside of our community.”

According to the manifesto leaked online, the mass shooter identified himself as a white supremacist and an anti-semite. He acted as a reaction to a theory that suggests the white race is currently being replaced in America by a more diverse community.
Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia said during a press conference that Gendron had threatened a shooting at his high school in June 2021 and was sent for mental health treatment.

Gendron “made statements indicating that he wanted to do a shooting, either at a graduation ceremony, or sometime after”, officials have said.
