Brazil football legend Pele has been rushed to hospital in Paris after falling ill, according to reports.
The legendary Brazilian was rushed to hospital last night after attending a promotional event with Kylian Mbappe in the French capital.
The 78-year-old was admitted with a strong fever “as a precaution”, according to French media. His condition is not thought to be life-threatening.
Pele met with France star Kylian Mbappe on Tuesday, after their previous meeting scheduled for last November was cancelled due to the Brazilian’s poor health.
The pair had been exchanging pleasantries for several months after Mbappe netted France’s fourth goal in a 4-2 win over Croatia last July. The feat meant the youngster became only the second teenager to score in a World Cup final after Pele.
A World Cup winner himself, Mbappe has been likened to a young Pele, but speaking on Tuesday he admitted he would never match the Brazilian’s goalscoring feats.
“Even with the goals in the playgrounds, goals on the PlayStation, I could never equal 1,250 goals,” he said.
“It’s really a long way off. I’ll try and get as close as I can, but I think it’ll still be a long way off by the end of my career.”
Mbappe, 20, has so far scored 103 goals in his professional career.
Pele, whose full name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento, is widely considered one of the best footballers of all time, having won the World Cup three times with Brazil’s national team.
