The Member of Parliament for Assin Central of the governing New Patriotic Party Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has accused some ministers of his party of plotting to destroy former Minister of Energy Boakye Agyarko, prior to his dismissal from office.
According to the legislator, he has information that the ministers in question plotted Agyarko’s downfall during a meeting at Alisa hotel, although he failed to mention any name.
Speaking on Ekosii sen on Asempa FM on Tuesday, he said:
“NPP ministers went to meet journalists at Alisa hotel to destroy Boakye Agyarko. But I think he is okay, he doesn’t have a problem. When he was not a minister he survived. I think he is a good man but his era has ended. Let him move on,”
Kennedy also advised the former minister not to accept any future NPP appointment again.
“I don’t think he has to accept any post again. Why do you want people to ridicule you? Is that the only way he can serve?”
Hon Boakye Agyarko was relieved of his post on Monday, August 6, 2018, for allegedly misleading government on the new Ameri agreement sent to Parliament.
The new deal sought to bring a new company on board to handle some power plants managed by Ameri Energy.
The Director of Communications at the presidency, Eugene Arhin, said Boakye Agyarko’s dismissal was due to his handling of the reviewed AMERI agreement.
“In a nutshell, it [the dismissal] is to do with the issue of the controversial AMERI deal. That is why the President has relieved the Minister for Energy of his position,” he said.
But Kennedy Agyapong said he believes Mr. Agyarko was hounded out of office because there was a lot of pressure on the president to fire him.
“Whether you like it or not he [Agyarko] is a brilliant guy and you can’t take it away from him today or tomorrow. They don’t like good people. In Ghana, if you speak the truth like Boakye Agyarko people will not like you. There was a lot of pressure on the president,” he said.
