Sad news reaching Airnewsonline.com is that Ghanaian highlife legend, Alfred Benjamin Crentsil, widely known in the music industry as AB Crentsil is dead.
He was 79 years.
The sad news was reported today Wednesday, July 13 by popular sound engineer, Fred Kyei Mensah via his Facebook post.
He wrote:
“FAREWELL AB CRENTSIL. The original composer and singer of the famous and controversial songs, ‘Moses and Atia’, AB Crenstil, has died! He had a stint with a lot of bands before joining the Sweet Talks Band with Smart Nkansah and then his own band, Ahenfo. His hit songs, ‘Juliana and Obi ba wiase’, cannot be forgotten,”
AB Crentsil has won several awards including the Fontomfrom Evergreen Award, a special honour bestowed upon a musician with 15–20 years of continuous music experience.
Some of his hit songs include I Go Pay You Tomorrow, Papa Samo, Akpetshie Seller, Moses, Juliana, Atia, Angelina, Ayen, Devil, Adwoa, Adam & Eve, and many others.
Who Was AB Crentsil?
Born in 1943 at Prestea to Mr Alfred Benjamin Crentsil Snr and Esi Yaaba, A.B Crentsil was then known as AB junior until 1984 when he assumed the AB Crentsil name after the death of his father.
Alfred Benjamin Crentsil played with El Dorado’s, Sweet Talks, House band and Ahenfo band.
He was the lead vocalist of the Sweet Talks band and the House band at the Talk of The Town Hotel in Coastal City of Tema. He ruled over Ghana’s Highlife scene in the ’70s.
The songwriter, composer, singer and performer who has more than 5 decades of music experience was a legend indeed. He has warmed the hearts of countless people with his music.
