Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi pleads not guilty, granted GHC10 million bail in $2m Sky Train case

Ameyaw-Akumfi pleads not guilty

Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), has pleaded not guilty to charges of wilfully causing financial loss to the state, conspiracy, and intentional dissipation of public funds.

He appeared before the High Court in Accra on Monday, May 26, for the first time in the ongoing trial over the failed $2 million Accra Sky Train project.

The court granted him bail in the sum of GHC10 million, with two sureties to be justified.

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi is standing trial alongside former GIIF Chief Executive Officer Solomon Asamoah, who has also pleaded not guilty.

Court proceedings had been delayed previously due to health-related issues cited by Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi’s legal team.

The charges stem from the alleged unauthorised disbursement of $2 million in public funds towards the Sky Train initiative, which never materialised.

The Attorney General’s office is prosecuting both men for their roles in what it claims was a misuse of public resources.
