The Dreadlocked Dynamo, Kofi Kingston defeated Samoa Joe to retain the WWE Championship at Extreme Rules 2019 on Sunday night.
Even though Joe largely had the upper hand throughout the bout, Kingston immediately charged and dropkicked Joe into the corner. Joe came right out of the corner and levelled Kofi with a clothesline. The Samoan Submission Machine went to work on Kofi with strikes, backing him into the corner.
Moreover, Joe hit chops into the corner. Kingston battled out with rights of his own. Joe swept the leg and Kofi went down bad on the knee. He worked Kofi around and choked him with the middle rope while the referee warned him.
Joe dropped Kofi with a big elbow and talked some trash. He kept Kofi grounded in the middle of the squared circle. More back and forth while Kingston tried to fight up.
Joe tried to break Kofi’s fingers. Therefore, he took Kofi out and put his fingers between the steel ring steps, and stomps on them. Kingston screamed out in pain on the ground. Joe brought it back into the ring and taunted Kofi, punishing him some more. Kingston fought back and delivered a dropkick. Also, he hit the ropes and took Joe down again. Joe pulled Kofi in and sent him to the apron. Kingston climbed to the top and hit a crossbody for two counts. He kept going, but Joe caught him in a big powerslam out of nowhere for two counts.
Joe power-bombed Kofi in the middle of the squared circle and held it for two counts. He went right into the STF submission, still pulling back on the injured hand. Finally, Kofi made it to the bottom rope to break the hold, but Joe took advantage of the count. Joe wasted some time and taunted the crowd to wake them up a bit. Kingston went for SOS out of the blue and hit it for two counts.
The Dreadlocked Dynamo waited for Joe to get up. Joe blocked Trouble In Paradise and applied the Coquina Clutch. However, Kingston resisted. Joe planted Kofi into the mat with an Uranage and covered for two counts after a Senton. Some fans chanted “we want Lesnar” while others chanted “no we don’t” in response. Kingston nailed a Trouble In Paradise out of nowhere for the pin to retain in the fairly short match.
WWE Champion hit the corner to pose with the title after the match.
