Ghanaian businessman and politician, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has officially submitted a bid to buy Chelsea FC from owner Roman Abramovich.

A few days ago, the Russian billionaire decided to sell Chelsea FC after the war between Russia and Ukraine escalated following a controversy regarding the owner and whether or not he should be allowed to own a football club in the UK.

Abramovich is said to have close ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose invasion of Ukraine has led to several deaths and injuries.

According to the bid circulating on social media, Chairman Wontumi has bid 3.1 billion Dollars to buy the Premier League club.

Chairman Wontumi is currently the owner of the gold mining firm, Hansol Company Limited and Kumasi-based TV/Radio station Wontumi FM/TV.

What I want to do now is to buy Chelsea Football Club. I’m a businessman, I do gold mining and [I can afford] £3 billion,” he said.

“I want to join the bid to buy the club. If I buy Chelsea, one of the first players I bring in is the Brazilain Vinicius Junior… What is £3 billion?”, he said during an interview with Wontumi FM.
