According to multiple reports, Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has switched his international allegiance from England to Ghana.
It has been revealed that his decision to switch allegiance might be triggered by the racist abuse suffered by England players after Euro 2020 final.
Marcus Rashfod, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka, who all missed penalties in England’s defeat against Italy, were racially abused online after the match.
The Ghanaian born Chelsea winger, recently paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House.
The president urged the Minister to “explore the possibility” of Hudson Odoi switching nationality and representing Ghana at the international level.
Aston Villa U-23 coach George Boateng als advised Hudson-Odoi to switch nationality to play for Ghana if he won’t get enough game time with England.
In an interview with Citi Sports, the Ghanaian-born ex-Netherlands international said:
“My advice would be that if you don’t see a future there [England] for you to play regular football, [then consider Ghana] because let’s not make a mistake here, Hudson-Odoi is an outstanding world-class footballer,”
“He is only going to get better and it will be a shame if he only ends up having five or six caps for England and doesn’t make a final tournament like a World Cup or European Championship ever in his career,” he added.
Hudson-Odoi has three senior caps for England but remains eligible for a switch of national associations provided he does not add a fourth cap for the Three Lions.
