Baffour Gyan has disclosed that his brother took the step to annul his marriage to his ex-wife because he found out Gifty Gyan was married to him (Asamoah) and another man simultaneously.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Baffour Gyan said:
“Asamoah Gyan’s wife had been married before and still went ahead to marry him without informing him”
“When Asamoah found out, he took the matter to court for investigation, and wanted the marriage annulled if it turned out to be true that his wife was already married to another man.
“The ruling came today, and the court found out that indeed, Gifty had been married, and as per Ghana’s law, a woman cannot be married to two men at the same time. So the court annulled the marriage, stating that it doesn’t exist.”
This situation made Asamoah Gyan to doubt the paternity of his children thereby requesting a Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test.
On October 31, 2023, an Accra High Court handed down judgment in a three-year divorce battle involving former Ghana international Asamoah Gyan.
The court agreed to dissolve the marriage which was contracted in 2013 between Gyan and Gifty and also disclosed that the DNA test proved Asamoah Gyan was indeed the biological father of the three children he had with Gifty Gyan.
The court also charged Asamoah Gyan to pay his ex-wife Gifty Gyan a sum of twenty-five thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc25,000) every month for the welfare and upkeep of their three children.
This amount excluded school fees for the three children, medical and dental care fees, and flight tickets for travel, among other costs that may come with raising children.
Gifty however got some of her reliefs granted including a four-bedroom house at Spintex in Accra, ownership of land meant for a fuelling station in Prampram, BMW, Infiniti and Asamoah Gyan’s UK mansion.
