Former President John Mahama has assured members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that one of the reasons why the party lost in 2016 is because the NDC campaign cash got into the wrong hands, assuring that for the 2020 campaign, the right things will be done.
Mr Mahama was addressing NDC supporters at Bawjiase in Awutu Senya West constituency as part of his four-day tour of the Central Region.
“We have identified all our mistakes and we have learned from our mistakes; so we now need unity to win the 2020 elections,” Mr Mahama said.
Mr Mahama also called on all party aspirants to eschew the politics of insults and to seek unity.
He said unity and peace in the party should be their campaign message when they are given the platform. But overall, he stressed that a lot went wrong and never again.
“We have learnt lessons and in 2020 the campaign items will go through the National Executives, to the Regional executives, then to the constituency chairmen and then to the right people for the campaign” he added.
“In 2016, a lot of mistakes were made but we cannot blame one person; some constituencies did not train party agents well, some agents too did not turn up to observe the elections. If people vote in an election and your agent is not there, definitely they will cheat you” he said.
