Chairman of the Teachers’ and Education Workers Union (TEWU), Charles Arthur, has said Minister of Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah is now a chronic liar, who has learnt to lie very fast after taking office as Information Minister.
After days of feet dragging, the government finally submitted names of four persons on Saturday to be members of the new council but under certain conditions: none of the old council members should be on the new council which TEWU, UTAG has kicked against.
They say the government’s stance is untenable.
TEWU members have vowed that they would not resume work until the old governing council is reconstituted.
“Our members will continue long meetings every day until the new governing council is reconstituted with our existing representatives. Much as we cannot dictate to the government whom it should bring to the council, equally the government cannot dictate for us who to represent us on the council” chairman of KNUST-TEWU, Charles Arthur pointed out.
Speaking on Okay FM, Charles Arthur said Kojo Oppong Nkrumah puts off his phone on purpose when his lies catch up with him.
But replying swiftly afterwards, Mr Oppong Nkrumah said disagreeing with someone doesn’t mean you can abuse them, stating that government will not accept the old council members.
“We will look into the matters and punish those responsible. If it is students we will punish them. If it is the council, they will be punished.”
He said the reason for government calling for new member nomination to the council is because the government wouldn’t want people to be judges in their own matter.
