Manchester City are set to make Jorginho their first signing of the summer as early as next week, according to Yahoo Sport.
Pep Guardiola is eager to reinforce his squad for an assault on next season’s Champions League after dominating domestically last term.
With the Champions League just around the corner, Pep Guardiola is keen to bolster his team for the next season’s games.
Italian international Jorginho has long been touted as a potential recruit and a deal is made easier by the Azzuri’s failure to qualify for the World Cup.
While others are jetting off to Russia, Jorginho is free to continue negotiations with City over a £60million transfer from Napoli.
Aurelio De Laurentiis, president of the Serie A side, has confirmed that the move is close to being completed after positive talks.
He told The Sun: “I think the deal can be done in the next few days.
“Everything is possible as we have a good relationship with Manchester City and their people but we must negotiate.
“We are still not in agreement over the price for the player but we’ll be near to the conclusion as they made an effort in the last few days.”
Napoli are still embroiled in a bitter dispute with Maurizio Sarri as confusion remains over his position following the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as manager.
There is a feeling that the Jorginho to City deal could be unlocked next week. Jorginho has already told Napoli he will not renew his contract, which expires in 2020. City have refused to improve a bid of €47m + €5-6m in bonuses.
Chelsea are keen to appoint Sarri as a replacement for Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge but are locked in their own disagreement with the former Italy coach over his exit package.
Should City conclude a deal for Jorginho, the midfielder is expected to be followed through the door at the Etihad by Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez.
