President Donald Trump hosted Kanye West and former football player and NHL Hall of Famer Jim Brown at the White House today, October 11, 2018, in Washington, DC marking the rapper’s latest endorsement of the President.
West – who was wearing a ‘Make America Great Again’ hat, which he said “made me feel like Superman” – met Trump in the Oval Office of The White House.
He also met with presidential son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner who has spearheaded the administration’s efforts to overhaul the criminal justice system.
Members of the press were invited into the Oval Office prior to that lunch to witness the meeting, where West launched into a meandering, 10-minute-long soliloquy which touched on a number of subjects.
“Let’s stop worrying about the future, all we have is today,” West said, before elaborating on his support for the current President.”
Trump is on his hero’s journey right now. He might not have thought he’d have a crazy motherfucker like me [supporting him].”
The rapper also hinted once again at his apparent plans to run for the US presidency in 2024.
West also addressed such topics as the stop-and-frisk policing policies in Chicago, possible clemency for the incarcerated Larry Hoover (who West called “a living statue”) and manufacturing.
“We have to bring jobs into America because our best export is entertainment and ideas, but when we make everything in China and not America we are cheating our country,” West said about the latter point.
He also claimed that he had been misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder in the past year, saying that he had instead only been sleep deprived.
After he finished speaking, Trump remarked: “That was quite something.” West replied: “It was from the soul. I just channelled it.” He then hugged the President, saying: “I love this guy right here.”
