President Donald Trump had a ‘sad’ exchange with a female reporter Cecilia Vega yesterday, during a press conference on the trade deal with Mexico and Canada and other topics.
ABC News reporter, Cecilia Vega, who was called on President Donald Trump at some point in the interview, was slammed by the US President who claimed she in “shock” by the very fact that she was called on to ask him a question, and that she does not think.
The exchange is captured in words below;
She’s shocked that I picked her. She’s like in a state of shock.
The reporter then tried to correct the president, saying:
I’m not, thank you, Mr. President.
But she was met with further insults as Trump said:
That’s OK, I know you’re not thinking. You never do.
And The US President replied:
No, go ahead. Go ahead.
The exchange which was interpreted by social media users as misogynistic, led to several call out posts against the US President.
Vega however went on to ask a question on the on the scope of the FBI investigation into Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, which Trump dismissed as irrelevant to the new trade deal that prompted the presser.
“What does that have to do with trade?”The US President said. “I don’t mind answering the question. But, you know, I’d like to do the trade questions, too.”
He later circled back to Vega in a press conference that also found Trump deriding other female reporters. He wagged his finger at CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, shouting “Don’t do that!” as she questioned him about Kavanaugh.
He later cut off another journalist as she asked about mass shootings, as Aaron Ruper of ThinkProgress noted.
Vega later alluded to the exchange with Trump in a tweet:
“A news conference means you get to ask whatever question you want to ask. #FirstAmendment.”
