A Ghanaian man who intentionally infected his two girlfriends with HIV has been jailed for 5 years in the United Kingdom.
Japhet Osei slept with two girls after being identified as HIV optimistic and refused any help from medical doctors or to take any medicine to suppress the virus.
The 23-year-old had been diagnosed with the HIV virus in February 2014, but kept his status secret and despite knowing his status, passed on the Sexually Transmitted Disease (STI) to his two women.
After he deliberately had unprotected coitus with the women, both fell ill and tests revealed he had passed the virus onto each of them.
Osei even lied that a sexual health clinic check-up had discovered he was clear and confirmed to her a text message to prove it, the court docket heard.
The presiding judge at the Reading Crown Court, Angela Morris said Osei had ‘lied, lied and lied’ again after he admitted to two counts of causing grievous bodily harm
“We are not living in the 1980s where everyone was ignorant of the effects of this disease and running around in a panic.
“This is 30 years later. You had been supplied with experience, help and the chance for remedy for the horrible illness you knew you carried and also you refused it.
“Despite your data of your medical situation, you launched into a sexual relationship. Your actions are completely inexcusable.”
She added that she had learn the “harrowing ordeal” every woman had subsequently gone by means of bodily and mentally since prognosis, through their sufferer impact statements.
She additionally ordered that Japhet Osei needs to be the topic of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order where he is not permitted to have sex with any woman without telling her about his HIV status.
