Baba Jamal has commended the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s decision to erect a national cathedral in the country.
According to the former Member of Parliament for the Akwatia Constituency, Ghana is a Christian dominated country, hence the national cathedral initiative is in the right direction.
Baba Jamal said: “We all know that Ghana is a secular country and that Christians are the majority in the country. So I think it is a very laudable idea to build the national cathedral”
He further stated that the project is like the national mosque that is being constructed for Muslims in the country, explaining that the Mosque that was broken down in Makola is being replaced with the National Mosque which is currently under construction.
The building of the Cathedral has caused an uproar in the country with many accusing government of having misplaced priorities as well as wasting the taxpayer’s money.
According to him, the public outcry about the project gives a course for government to rethink the whole idea and probably look for an alternative site for the project.
In his estimation, the government together with the board of trustees of the National cathedral project should get back to the drawing board and repackage the project to make it more acceptable by the generality of the Ghanaian people.
