Chelsea to hijack Jorginho from Manchester City in a deal worth £57.5million (€65m).
We knew that Jorginho would leave Napoli after his impressive 2017/2018 season, but it was always thought he was headed to work with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
Napoli has already spent £26m on his replacement Fabian Ruiz. So it was just a matter of time until the move was announced.
A deal with Chelsea has been found though, and Jorginho will make the bold decision of moving to Stamford Bridge, following his former manager to help rebuild Chelsea.
The Mirror has reported, “Chelsea are believed to have offered £57.5million (€65m) compared to City’s bid of £48.7m (€55m)”. The deal is expected to be announced today, as well as the appointment of new Manager, Maurizio Sarri.
The Brazilian-born Italian boasted an impressively high pass completion rate for Napoli (On nine different occasions, he completed over 100 passes in Serie A, per Squawka) and will add a defensive presence to the North London midfield. The 26-year-old easily slides into a midfield three and plays like a prototypical number 6.
Chelsea already has a plethora of midfielders, and the addition of Jorginho will cause it to crowd even more. But Sarri’s Napoli was known to start out from the back in a 2-3-2-3 formation, much different from Conte’s traditional Italian 3-5-2 formation, and Sarri will want the players necessary for his system.
As for Manchester City, it’s another signature stolen away from the club.
