Manchester United will face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16.
The draw for the round of 16 was made at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon on Monday morning.
The Red Devils were the fifth team pulled out the pot at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, and PSG were drawn as their opponents.
United were the second English club to discover their last 16 opponents, with Manchester City handed one of the easier draws to open proceedings; Pep Guardiola’s side take on Bundesliga outfit Schalke.
Later in the draw, Tottenham Hotspur were paired with Borussia Dortmund, while Liverpool have to overcome German giants Bayern Munich to reach the quarter-finals.
Spanish heavyweights Barcelona and Real Madrid have been handed favourable last 16 draws, they play Lyon and Ajax respectively, while Atletico Madrid vs Juventus promises to be an intriguing match-up.
The ties of the round, however, undoubtedly involve two English teams.
Manchester United have to contend with a PSG outfit who are still unbeaten in Ligue 1 this season and who finished ahead of Liverpool in Group C, and their excellent attacking triumvirate of Edinson Cavani, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe will relish the opportunity to play against a defence that has already shipped 29 league goals this term.
Liverpool come up against Bayern Munich with the perennial Bundesliga champions suffering something of a identity crisis under Niko Kovac, who was named their manager earlier this year.
They are nine points off top spot in Germany’s top flight, but they did finish first in Champions League Group E, not losing a single match and scoring 15 goals in the process.
