The Ghana U-17 women’s national team, the Black Maidens, led by captain Mukarama Abdulai got their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup off to a flying start when they humiliated the host, Uruguay, 5 – 0 in their opening game on Tuesday.
Captain Mukarama Abdulai scored a hat-trick.
The dominant Maidens got the opener in the 20th-minute through Fuseina Mumuni who had to turn 360 degrees in the penalty box to slot home past the Uruguay goalie.
Captain Abdulai doubled the lead with a header to give Ghana a 2 – 0 lead in the first half.
Millot Pokuaa made it 3 – 0 on the 66th-minute, and 12 minutes later, Abdulai extended the lead and got her brace.
The captain got her hat-trick in injury time to give Ghana the maximum points which place them on top of Group A.
Mukurama was named the most valuable player of the game.
Mukarama Abdulai had earlier registered 12 goals during the African qualifiers for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
