The National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Kofi Adams has accused flagbearer-hopeful and MP for the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency Alban Bagbin of trying to destroy the party in his quest to lead it in the 2020 general election.
Bagbin who has officially declared his intention to contest in the upcoming primaries slated for December 7 is one of the most vocal critics of ex-President John Mahama and his administration.
Mr Bagbin, the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, addressing some party faithful at a meeting with executives in Keta in the Volta Region said:
“The pillars that support you when you’re up there, are the pillars you have to fortify to continue to carry you up there, when you weaken them, you fall. You can put something on nothing. We have to change.
“Don’t tell me that the boys that suddenly came closer to the president within four years can build mansions and buy land cruisers and you say there are no resources, where are they getting the money, their salaries?”
According to the Alban Bagbin, NDC can not afford to elect John Mahama to lead the party again in 2020 because he knows Mahama very well and he [Mahama] will be humiliated.
“When he [Mr Mahama] came and met me in parliament in 1979, we identified him and he became deputy minister for two years, minister for two years and we lost elections.
“I then called him to my office and made him a ranking member for communication. The party also made him director of communication.
“So, eight years he worked in my office under one of my daughters called Mawusi Genasa, so, you cannot know John more than me, and you cannot love John more than me, but love is not love when you see the person is going wrong and you keep quiet for the person to be humiliated.”
However, Kofi Adams who managed the Mahama re-election campaign has advised party members to disregard the “scandalous” outburst of Bagbin.
According to Adams, Bagbin’s “blackmail, [and] destruction” of a party he claimed he wants to lead into the 2020 general elections “will not wash.”
“If truly, Mr Bagbin is not out there to destroy the party,” Adams stated on Joy FM Monday “he must be careful with what he says.”
“But for some of us, it is becoming very clear that it is an agenda to destroy the party not to want to lead it. Because if truly he wants to lead the party he will not be speaking the way he is speaking.
“I’m scandalised with the comments coming from Mr Bagbin,” he added.
